gave birth to her daughter
Mehr Dhupia Bedi
on November 18, 2018. On October 3, 2021, she gave birth to her son,
Guriq Singh
Dhupia Bedi. Post the birth of both her children, Neha was trolled and body shamed for her post-pregnancy weight gain. Neha in an interview with Pinkvilla spoke about how she was body-shamed post pregnancy and that she faced body image issues after she gave birth to her children.
“I did not have insecurity when I was pregnant. I started facing body image issue was after I gave birth. I am not saying that people need to lose weight, being perfect is everyone's own version. But what happens mentally is that everything acts up together. I remember I was trolled very badly where a female journalist wrote something on my weight, and I wrote back. It is not fair to trouble a new mum over her body weight,” said Neha.
Body-shaming can have an effect on both the physical as well as mental health of an individual. This could then lead to several other health problems. Moreover, body-shaming new mothers about their post-pregnancy weight gains could also be harmful for both the mother and baby. When a new mother is body-shamed, it not just affects the mother, but, it might also have a negative effect on the baby. Take a look at the effects of body-shaming.
- Body-shaming can cause eating disorders. It can cause eating disorders like
anorexia wherein a person starves themselves to lose weight.Bulimia , on the other hand is where a person eats to gain weight. Both of these can have health effects such as dehydration, constipation, undernourishment, bloating, and several other health issues. - Body-shaming can cause mental health issues.
Body shaming can also lead to anxiety and depression. When they are constantly receiving negative remarks about their body, it makes them anxious and they might also suffer from panic attacks. - Body-shaming increases the risks of suicide.
